Fair Weather, Smooth Track, Good Turn-Out: Season Starts Up Successfully

The Toronto Inline Skating Club kicked off its 2012 campaign with a good practice earlier this evening.

A strong core of experienced skaters were joined by a dash of new skaters. Together, all these skaters will form groups that will act a spring-board for working together to build and improve technique, racing strategy & tactics, fitness, and camaraderie.

Congratulations to TISC’s new Board of Directors for the 2012-2013 season.

TISC’s Board of Directors will work for the benefit of the Toronto Inline Skating Club and its membership to bring the most memorable and best season possible.

Plans for 2012 include ensuring delivery of a good skating program for skaters, subsidizing Youth skaters to attend the Canadian Outdoor Championships in July, upgrading the Skate Rental Fleet, planning and hosting a Year-End Awards & Volunteer Recognition Party, and fielding a complete roster for the 24-Hours Roller Montreal in September.

The Board will also consult with TISC membership in creating a policy/ charter/ by-laws document.

In the meantime, with April 3rd fast approaching, membership forms and more detailed information will be available online before April 3rd.


2012 Season Kicks Off April 3rd

TISC will kick off its 2012 season on April 3rd at 6pm at the 400-meter track at Colonel Samuel Smith Park Drive next to Humber College at Lakeshore and Kipling.

Practices will be held 6pm on Tuesdays & Thursdays (6:30pm May to August, back to 6pm in September).

Additional information, including forms for membership, information, insurance, and waiver will be posted after the Annual General Meeting at the end of March.

TISC is planning on delivering three programs, including Kids, Fitness, and Racing.


2012 TISC Annual General Meeting: March 25th at 1:30pm in Mississauga

The Toronto Inline Skating Club will hold its Annual General Meeting on Sunday March 25th  at 1:30pm at the Lorne Park Library located at 1474 Truscott in Mississauga. It is South of QEW. From the QEW, travel on Southdown Rd. Go East on Truscott. This is a venue for our TISC Annual General Meeting.

The Board of Directors hopes as many of you members as possible will be there.

Items on the Agenda include:

  • Election of Board of Directors
  • 2011 financial report and 2012 budget
  • Proposed membership fees
  • Outline for 2012 season

TO2015 Announces Make It Happen Program

Athlete ambassadors making a difference in high schools across the region

TORONTO – February 27, 2012 – Today, Ian Troop, Chief Executive Officer of the Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games Organizing Committee (TO2015) officially introduced the Make It Happen School program.

TO2015’s Make It Happen program provides Grade 9 and 10 students with a greater understanding of the dedication, commitment and hard work necessary to achieve goals, with a broader focus on character development and overall personal achievement.


Morgane Echardour & Travis Shaw Compete at Pan American Games Tomorrow

Toronto Inline Skating Club’s Morgane Echardour and Travis Shaw will skate the sprint races at the Pan American Games in Guadelajara, Mexico.

The competition, which gets under way tomorrow, will see sprinters take to the line for a 300-meter time trial and a 1000-meter pack race.

The Pan American Games are the 2nd largest multi-sport event after the Summer Olympics. The Canadian Olympic Team
consists of almost 800 Canadians who will be in Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta. The athletes will be trying to achieve personal bests, win Pan Am medals, set records and for some earn an Olympic Qualification spot. (To be exact, 796 in total = 97 coaches+137 support team+ 67 mission team+ 493 athletes).

This multi-sport event is held every four years with 46 sports involving 42 countries from the nations of North, Central and South America. It is the only Olympic event in which roller sports participates.

The Toronto Inline Skating Club recently celebrated it’s skaters & their accomplishments and some volunteers and their contributions.

Travis Shaw, Morgane Echardour, Wayne Burrett Off To The Pan American Games!

Congratulations to TISC”s Morgane Echardour and Travis Shaw who will be competing in the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Morgane Echardour assured her spot on Canada’s Pan American Games roster by qualifying at the Canadian Outdoor Championships in Harriston in July. Travis Shaw, who also competed in the qualifying competition, was recently offered a spot on the team since last week Canada was given the option to allow a male skater to compete.

Wayne Burrett will also be in Mexico supporting Canada’s team. Mike Murray (TISC Life-time Honourary Member) is the team coach.

Being part of the Pan American Games is an important honour. The Pan American Games, which are the second largest multi-sport event after the Summer Olympics, feature sports such as archery, badminton, basketball, track & field, and more! Roller sports and roller speed skating is part of a great family and community of sports.
