October 14, 2011

Congratulations to TISC”s Morgane Echardour and Travis Shaw who will be competing in the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Morgane Echardour assured her spot on Canada’s Pan American Games roster by qualifying at the Canadian Outdoor Championships in Harriston in July. Travis Shaw, who also competed in the qualifying competition, was recently offered a spot on the team since last week Canada was given the option to allow a male skater to compete.

Mid-August 2011 Newsletter- Poop Patrol, September Start Time Change, Aug. 27th Montreal VRL Grand Prix, Bill Begg Clinic

Practice Nights Poop Patrol

Those pesky Canada Geese are back leaving behind their poop on the track. If you arrive early enough we would appreciate help in clearing it off the track. We have some children’s sand box toy shovels to scoop up the droppings. These shovels will be placed on the ground beside Wayne’s van for anyone to help with.

See Billy The Exterminator’s Aerial Attack episode ‘Billy and Ricky head to Charlotte, North Carolina where they find out just how vicious geese can be when you mess with their nests. Using only an umbrella for cover, Billy defends himself from a nasty aerial assault by two very angry birds.‘.

TISC Rental to Eastern Seaboard Series (Trexlertown) This Weekend

August 1, 2011

Hey TISC skaters. Have we another great deal for you!!

TISC will cover half the cost of a rental & gas for the August 6th Eastern Seaboard Series in Trexlertown, Pennsylvania.

This race series has categories for skaters of all abilities. They usually have good number of participants for each division. Along with the longer race (5km/ 10km/ 15km depending on division), skaters will likely skate a 1km time trial and a relay. Entries will be completed on site once we arrive.

Skaters will leave Toronto on Friday and return on Saturday night.

TISC members not skating in the club’s uniform can take part in this by paying an extra $30.

Once everyone is confirmed for travel, we’ll sort out meeting times on Friday and also book a hotel- most likely a Best Western nearby as it’s clean, close to the venue, and provides a good breakfast. Those who don’t want to stay in the hotel can camp on site at the race venue.

If you’d like to reserve your spot be part of this experience, please contact Peter Doucet or chit chat with him at practice.

Another Strong Showing for TISC at Montreal’s Marathon

July 22, 2011

The work, efforts, and training that TISC skaters have committed to this season continue to pay off with strong results. Skaters had to deal with cold and snow for the 2010 edition of the event. This year’s event featured the opposite weather- strong sun and hot temperatures!

The most recent competition and event where TISC’s members shone is Montreal’s Marathon.

The Montreal Marathon was held at the PMG Driving Test Track in Blainville, just North of Montreal-  this a move away from the event’s original home at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Concerns for this how good this untested venue would be were eased as skaters enjoyed the 3km loop which provided a very wide track for open racing.

Despite confusion with which lap was the true finishing lap, the race was well put together. Event organizers are already looking at making the event bigger and better for 2012. And TISC will be there, ready to set a strong pace and put up strong efforts.

Interview with Peter Doucet on RollerEnLigne

July 14, 2011

The Toronto Inline Skating Club fielded 20 skaters in these Canadian Championships. Medals were awarded in each division for 1st place Overall and top- 3 in Sprint and Distance. TISC skaters earned 32 medals!

I’m incredibly proud of what TISC skaters accomplished at these Canadian Championships. I was impressed with our club’s solidarity, sportsmanship, work ethic, and performance.

At TISC, the last few years have been one of concentrating on good programming by providint well-planned practices, refocusing our club on recruiting younger skaters and helping them develop, facilitating healthy sustainable growth, and encouraging a philosophy of health through participation and love & freedom of the skating movement.

TISC has two official practices each week. For those practices, we use a 400-meter track that is big enough to run both our coached programs. One of the programs is run by Jesse Pauley. His program focuses on games and developing technique for youth. I run the program that caters to skaters who’s goals range from those who want to increase fitness to those who want to take their skating and racing to the next level.
