Huge Turnout, Tons of Fun at Rainy 24-Hours Roller Montreal

September 6, 2011

Almost 1000 skaters and many more skating enthusiasts and supporters came to celebrate skating and support Quebec’s MS Society at the 24-Hours Roller Montreal.

Teams ranging from Solo to some made up the maximum 10-skaters enjoyed skating during the day, at night, and during the day once again around Montreal’s beautiful Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Parc Jean Drapeau.

TISC’s skaters were members of a few teams, including Toronto Inline Skating Club (15th place), Il Peloton (1st place), Schankel Kallisto (2nd place), and Skater’s Quest (7th place).

A special thanks to Eric Gee who did an incredible job coordinating and leading TISC’s entry, thank you to all who supported TISC’s skaters, and thank you to the skaters for coming out to enjoy this amazing experience.

Smiles and Falls

August 10, 2011

Sometimes skaters will fall at practice.

Not everyone who skates at TISC  falls.

For those who do, the majority of their falls involve only a few scratches that heal quickly!

Despite the scars and those who experience a bit more damage, they keep smiling, coming back to skate, and they keep on working hard!

Another Strong Showing for TISC at Montreal’s Marathon

July 22, 2011

The work, efforts, and training that TISC skaters have committed to this season continue to pay off with strong results. Skaters had to deal with cold and snow for the 2010 edition of the event. This year’s event featured the opposite weather- strong sun and hot temperatures!

The most recent competition and event where TISC’s members shone is Montreal’s Marathon.

The Montreal Marathon was held at the PMG Driving Test Track in Blainville, just North of Montreal-  this a move away from the event’s original home at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Concerns for this how good this untested venue would be were eased as skaters enjoyed the 3km loop which provided a very wide track for open racing.

Despite confusion with which lap was the true finishing lap, the race was well put together. Event organizers are already looking at making the event bigger and better for 2012. And TISC will be there, ready to set a strong pace and put up strong efforts.

Great Weekend for TISC Skaters at Canadian Championships

July 11, 2011

TISC fielded 20 skaters and a small army of volunteers at the recent Canadian Outdoor Championships. Our skaters earned an impressive 32 medals in Sprint, Distance, and Overall categories, plus a good racing experience and few National records along way.

For many TISC’ers, this was their first Canadian Championship. Yes, TISC’s performances were solid. But what was more impressive was our club’s solidarity, how TISC’s skaters rose up to and handled challenges and tough situations, and the way everyone took the opportunity to greet and welcome those from out of town.

The competition, which was organized and sanctioned by Roller Sports Canada, was held July 2nd and 3rd at CITC’s 200-meter banked track in Harrsiton, Ontario.

  • Record-setting weekend for Amanda Tickner: Amanda set two of records in the competitive Freshmen category. With her new skates, she looks strong and is showing promise!
  • Strange results for Morgane Echardour, Pan Am Games bound!: Day 1: 1st and 1st, Day 2: 2nd, 2nd, and 2nd, and 2nd! Morgane Echardour has earned a spot on Canada’s squad for the upcoming Pan American Games this October in Mexico
  • Jade Pauley almost perfect: After winning all 5 distances at the Canadian Champs in Calgary in 2010, Jade Pauley won 4 of 5 races, with an unexpected and surprising win in the 15km elimination
  • Alain Quintard cruises and supports: Alain Quintard was a great team mate, offering help to his friends and maintaining consistent speed in his Grand Master races
  • Travis Shaw, Great Performances: Travis Shaw set personal best times in the 300-meter sprint and placed a surprising 3rd place in the 15km elimination race, topping strong skaters in an exciting finish that saw a few skaters go down! Don’t worry, Travis had these guys already beat before they crashed!
  • First Nationals victory for Shannon Hegarty: Shannon Hegarty’s sprint has been her strong point, and she made a point of allowing it to propel her to victory in dramatic fashion in the 500-meter, diving for the line, finishing about 1 skate length ahead of club-mate Morgane Echardour and Quebec’s Martine Charbonneau
  • Alex Rudy raises his game: He faced stiff competition from CPVRAM and VRL. He showed good racing instincts in the elimination and points races. Watch out, this kid is fast and he can last!
  • TISC’s volunteers- unsung heroes!: A number of TISC members volunteered with lap counting, photo finishing, officiating, and organizing. Thank you for all you work and for representing our amazing club in such a positive and helpful way!
