TISC Skaters Take Over Chicagoland Marathon NROC & Pro Inline Tour

July 31, 2009

TISC had strong representation at this past weekend’s Chicagoland Marathon (NROC)& Pro Inline Tour.

The three day competition, which featured a 340-meter group sprint, a 3.2km solo time-trial, a 10km points race, and a 42km marathon, featured top-notch competition for everyone in each category. Each of the Pro Inline Tour’s four races allowed skaters to earn points for an overall standing. The marathon, which is part of the NROC, was included in the Pro Inline Tour standings.

Morgan Williams finished 4th in the Veteran Men’s Pro Inline Tour, including a 2nd place finish in his category.

On the Pro Women’s side, it was Sarah Hopkins and Morgane Echardour who were more than a hand-full for their competition. Hopkins, who recently moved to Calgary to train for long track speed skating, finished 1st in the 340-meter sprint and in the points race. Morgane Echardour set the women’s fastest time in the 3.2km solo time-trial and reached the podium in the marathon.

Peter Doucet faced some very tough competition and worked very hard all weekend long. His hard work was rewarded with a podium finish in the marathon after he initiated breakaways during the race. He eventually initiated the marathon’s decisive break after being joined by World Champions & World medalists Jorge Botero (Colombia- Powerslide) and Harry Vogel (USA- Powerslide).

Brock Howes, who recently dove right into the sport, enjoyed his weekend. He gained important experience in the advanced category. He managed to carved out a 4th place finish in the 10km race.

Morgane Echardour Wins Thunder Bay MS Run And Roll Half Marathon

July 21, 2009

Morgane Echardour was the overall winner of this past weekend’s MS Run And Roll Half Marathon held in Thunder Bay.

With a time of 38-minutes 57-seconds, Echardour bested 2nd place finisher Herb Gayle and 3rd place finisher Peter Doucet. Echardour left Gayle and Doucet at the turn-around with 10.5km left in the race and managed to hold off a late charge by the top-2 male skaters.

The race, which featured inline skating, roller skiing, and running, was supported by athletes from Canada and the USA.

Echardour, Gayle, and Doucet- the top-3 overall finishers all from Toronto, will be joined by almost almost 10-skaters from the Toronto-area in competing in next weekend’s Chicagoland Inline Marathon and Pro Inline Tour.

Echardour came in first for the inline skating category with 38 minutes and 58 seconds. Erchardour came down with Peter Doucet, who also participated in the race, to see Doucet’s family. Echardour said she goes into her bubble when she gets ready for a race.

TISC Skaters Skate TBN’s Hamilton Beach Monthly Marathon

July 19, 2009

TBN hosted six TISC members at the second Hamilton Beach monthly marathon of the 2009 season on Saturday July 18. While the skies looked threatening, it stayed dry. Jesse Pauley won his first-ever Hamilton marathon, finishing 45 seconds ahead of Morgan Williams. Mr Pauley came in third, followed by Georg Nikodyrm. Shannon Hegarty went the furthest of everyone, skating four laps for a total of 60 kilometers. After our skate, some of us headed to Smitty’s in Burlington for lunch.

TBN will be holding one more monthly marathon at Hamilton on Saturday August 15th. This will give those of us not going to St Paul something to do that weekend!

The Hamilton Beach Monthly Marathon is set for this Saturday, July 18th. This is the second in a series of fun, self-supported monthly marathons at Hamilton Beach Trail.

About the Trail: The trail is smooth, straight, flat and wide. Arguably, the best trail in the GTA for inline skating. Two shorter distances are also offered. Those skaters not wishing to participate in a distance event are encouraged to come out and do a regular skate on the trail.

Entry Fees: TISC Members skate free. Skaters who do not belong to either TBN or TISC pay a $5 guest fee.

Distance/Class: 12 km/27 km/42 km.

Meeting & start time: 9:15am, depart 9:30 am

Directions: To get to the start point from the QEW, exit at Eastport Drive (the service road under the Skyway), drive across the lift bridge and park in the lot on the left, at the far end near the washrooms.

Carpool: If you are able to give a ride, please email inline@tbn.ca and let us know. If you are looking for a ride, email prior to Wednesday before the skate to request. We cannot guarantee carpooling will always be available, it depends on availability of club members that are driving. Passengers are expected to share driving expenses. Confirm amount with your driver.

Après Event: Smitty’s 1035 Brant Street in Burlington. Drive back on Eastport Dr over the lift bridge, return to QEW. Take Exit 99, towards Fairview St / Plains Road. Turn right onto Plains Road and follow it through Burlington. Turn left at Brant Street. Smitty’s is in the plaza on the right hand side just after you turn onto Brant.
