Beautiful Weather For TISC Skaters At TBN’s Monthly Marathon

June 22, 2009

TBN held its first Monthly Marathon of the season on Sunday. TISC skaters took advantage of the beautiful weather to skate along the lake-front trail in Burlington. For pictures, click here.

TBN hosted seven TISC members at the first Hamilton Beach monthly marathon of the 2009 season on Sunday June 21. It was a warm sunny morning, which was only fitting for the first day of summer. Peter Doucet continued his winning ways, finishing 2.5 minutes ahead of Morgan Williams. Sarah Hopkins and Morgane Echardour crossed the finish line together. After our skate, some of us headed to Smitty’s in Burlington for lunch.

TBN will be holding two more monthly marathons at Hamilton on Saturday July 18th and Saturday August 15th. Mark your calendar now!

Hamilton Beach Monthly Marathon This Saturday June 20‏

June 15, 2009

The Hamilton Beach Monthly Marathon is set for this Saturday, June 20th. This is the first in a series of fun, self-supported monthly marathons at Hamilton Beach Trail.

About the Trail: The trail is smooth, straight, flat and wide. Arguably, the best trail in the GTA for inline skating. Two shorter distances are also offered. Those skaters not wishing to participate in a distance event are encouraged to come out and do a regular skate on the trail.

Entry Fees: TISC Members skate free. Skaters who do not belong to either TBN or TISC pay a $5 guest fee.

Distance/Class: 12 km/27 km/42 km.

Meeting & start time: 9:15am, depart 9:30 am

Directions: To get to the start point from the QEW, exit at Eastport Drive (the service road under the Skyway), drive across the lift bridge and park in the lot on the left, at the far end near the washrooms.

Carpool: If you are able to give a ride, please email inline@tbn.ca and let us know. If you are looking for a ride, email prior to Wednesday before the skate to request. We cannot guarantee carpooling will always be available, it depends on availability of club members that are driving. Passengers are expected to share driving expenses. Confirm amount with your driver.

Après Event: Emma’s Back Porch
2084 Old Lakeshore Rd, Burlington. Drive back on Eastport Dr over the lift bridge, right on Lakeshore. Follow Lakeshore through Burlington, right on Old Lakeshore Rd.

Weather: Skate is postponed one day to Sun. if rain or wet pavement. If the weather is iffy, call the TBN hotline 416-760-4191, line 4, after 8:00am to confirm whether the skate will take place.

Safety: Helmet and wrist guards are mandatory, knee and elbow pads strongly recommended. Bring water and a snack.

Echardour & Doucet Claim Top Spots In Provincial Race Series

June 14, 2009

TISC’s own Morgane Echardour & Peter Doucet claimed top placements in today’s RSO Outdoor Series.

The race, which was primarily supported by TISC skaters and held at the 400-meter track at Father Redmond school, was held in ideal conditions.

Going into the final race of the day, Sarah Hopkins & Morgane Echardour were tied for the top placement in the women’s overall while Peter Doucet & Jesse Pauley were tied in points for the men’s overall.

For a few skaters, including Amanda Tickner & Shannon Ford Smith, this was the first time they participated in the RSO Series

The series’ next race is scheduled for July in Ottawa. Dates will be announced soon.

You can find pictures & results here.

Help Protect Montreal’s Gilles Villeneuve Track

June 11, 2009

Maintient du Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve pour l’entraînement des cyclistes / Keep Gilles-Villeneuve Circuit for Cyclist Track-

We, the undersigned, oppose the new devices installed on the Gilles-Villeneuve circuit to restrict the speed of cyclists. The Gilles-Villeneuve circuit is the only place in Montreal where competitive cyclists can train. This decision hinders the development of local athletes in cycling and in triathlon. Furthermore, this decision jeopardises the safety of road users and of these athletes because it forces them to relocate their training to busier roads or bike paths that are used by leisure cyclists.

Thursday Night Practices- Location Change

June 9, 2009

Our Thursda practices will now be held at the Christ the King Catholic Elementary School 200-meter track until further notice.

We are still trying to secure the permit to use the 400-meter track at the Father J. Redmond location (Humber College) since we wish to be there on Thursday evenings until the end of September.
