July TISC Newsletter

July 15, 2008

Canadian Championships: Congratulations to all the TISC members who competed in the 2008 Canadian Outdoor Inline Speed Skating Championships at the CITC Track in Harriston from June 28th to the 30th. TISC skaters distinguished themselves with Championship Titles, top 3 placements and some new records and PB’s. Results are posted on the RSC and Peter Doucet‘s websites. Rain caused some problems Sunday and Monday’s “rain date” had to be used but disappointingly not all skaters were able to be there on that day.

TISC Skaters On RSC World Team: RSC World Team Announced Congratulations to TISC members, Peter Doucet, Travis Shaw, Sarah Hopkins, Morgane Echardour, Chelsea Parry and Jade Pauley. Alberta skaters: Alex D’Mello, Brett Leavens (Ellis) and Leah Kaluta make up the athlete group with Coaches Alex Perrie, Tyler Congdon (AB) and Team Manager Wayne Burrett the officials. Supporters also planning on being at the 2008 World Championships: Laura Stenberg, Ursala Hendel, and Sergio Almeralla. The Team will depart for Gijon Spain on August 31st and return September 15th.

Canada Day Marathon: Canada Day 21k & 42k was successfully held in great weather and enjoyed by all the partcipants. The course – just North of Cambridge was in good shape. The volunteers, officials and police did an excellent job to coordinate the annual, event and deserve a vote of thanks. With the “shrinking” number of 21k & 42k events within easy driving distance for Ontario and Quebec skaters this event continues to be fairly well supported. More partcipants would make it an even bigger success!

Barry Publow Camp Cancelled: Barry Publow – TISC Speed Camp July 16th – 18th has been cancelled. TISC practices as usual times this week.

Doucet & Echardour In France: Good Luck to Peter Doucet & Morgane Echardour currently in France for some European skating experience, training, and racing before meeting up with the rest of the 2008 RSC World Team In Fijon Spain. Peter is posting some of their experiences on his website. He has a video of their Paris Friday Night 30k Skate with the thousands of skaters who participate!

Get Well Aaron Arndt: Speedy Recovery wished to Aaron Arndt as he continues to make progress in dealing with the post surgery and soft tissue damage pain. He will have another surgery in about five weeks so we wish him well.

RSO Series #2- July 20th In Toronto: The RSO Points Series Stage 2 will be at Christ the King School Track this Sunday. Come out and support this event by partcipating in it & or by volunteering to help with it. TISC is the host club. This co-ed event is a great intro to racing for our less race experienced club members and also gives another opportunity for the varying levels of experienced skaters to compete in abiliity groups in track racing. Start Times: Registration – 9:00am, General Warm Up – 9:30am, Races – 9:45am to 2:00pm. Registration and waiver required – complete on line ahead of time or on a hard copy at the venue.

Coaching Update: TISC’s Tuesday &.Thursday practices are now coached by Andrew Hegarty and Eric Gee. Other “non official TISC” practices are held on Monday evenings on a 400m track in Guelph and Wednesday evenings on a road course in Mississauga – no permits and no RSC Insurance coverage for these Mondaya and Wednesday practices. Contact Andrew Heagrty for more info: andrewjhegarty@yahoo.ca
